Solo Accelerated Freefall Training

You've arrived!  Whether you've completed one or more tandem jumps or this will be your first skydive ever, get ready for true freedom in the sky!

AerOhio Skydiving offers a unique and progressive training program.  We are the only skydiving school in the US that offers both an online first jump training course and VR parachute flight training before your first solo skydive.  You are able to experience a realistic, low pressure opportunity to fly and land a parachute preparing you for the flight and wind conditions on your jump day.  The online, self paced, first jump course and VR parachute flight training are amazing, advanced training tools.

Your first solo jump also marks the beginning of the Accelerated Freefall (AFF) training program.   When you make a reservation, you will begin your training by completing the Online AerOhio First Jump Course.   The course modules will teach you about aircraft exit, body position, canopy deployment, canopy flight, landing procedures, and safety procedures.   The cost of the online first jump course includes VR parachute flight training!  After you complete the Online First Jump Course, you will schedule a day to come to the skydiving center to complete the in person training with an Instructor and do your first solo skydive!   Weather permitting, you will be ready to jump in approximately 2 to 3 hours.

Click here to see the introduction to the Online First Jump Course!

For the solo jump, you and two USPA certified AFF instructors will exit the aircraft as a team, from 13,000 feet. During free fall, -they will help you to stay stable and teach you using hand signals. Your instructors will stay with you through canopy deployment, then you will fly and land your own parachute.  It is amazing!

After you land, if you find yourself looking to the sky and wanting to feel the incredible feeling of flight again (we predict you will), then it's time to continue your training and work toward your first United States Parachute Association License!

Not sure you want to go solo?  That is fine!   You always have the option to complete the Online First Jump Course, then try out your new skills on an AFF Training Tandem instead.  It is a great way to practice the freefall skills, learn about flying and landing a parachute, and build confidence all while attached to a seasoned Tandem/AFF Instructor.

What to Expect

How long should I plan to be at AerOhio?

Plan on spending most of the day with us.  The In-Person training starts at 8 am with your jump being approximately 3 hours later, all depending on the number of people in the class.

What training will I receive prior to skydiving?

The Online First Jump Course and In-Person ground training will cover how to exit the aircraft and freefall with your USPA instructors, and how to fly, navigate and land a parachute on your own. We cover a large amount of information, but there’s no rush to get to the jump, you won’t be jumping until you and your instructors feel like you’re ready.

What is an AFF Training Tandem?
A Training Tandem allows a student to use all the training from the solo AFF first jump course on a tandem skydive.   If you want confirmation that you are ready for a solo freefall and to fly and land your own parachute, a Training Tandem will give you the opportunity to experience all of those while attached to one of our USPA Instructors.  The Training Tandem is a valuable training tool and can be scheduled after you complete the Online First Jump Course.  The Training Tandem must be completed prior to a  Solo AFF first jump if you weigh over 225 lbs.

How long is the jump itself?

Our Super Otter aircraft will take you to a jump altitude of between 10,000 and 13,000 feet above the ground. You and your instructors will exit the plane and freefall for almost a full minute, falling for over a mile through the sky. Your instructors will release you as the parachute is opening, and then you’ll spend about five minutes flying your own parachute down to the ground.

What should I bring?

Bring your ID and wear comfortable clothes with athletic shoes. There will be a lunch break, so you can bring a lunch or drive a few minutes into Ashland to buy lunch. Don’t forget drinks and snacks too, it will be a busy day and it’s important to stay energized and hydrated!
